Start with a working dictation#
TawkType turns speech into text on your Windows PC. Click into a text field, hold your push-to-talk key, speak, then release. Recognition runs after you finish speaking; the completed text is inserted into the app you were using.

↗What happens to your words#
- You speak. TawkType records the microphone while your hold or toggle session is active.
- Your PC transcribes. Parakeet or Whisper converts the recording to text locally.
- Your preferences apply. The active mode, spellings, replacements and snippets shape the result. An optional Claude rewrite is a separate choice.
- The text is delivered. TawkType checks the destination and types or pastes the completed text. If it cannot deliver, recovery keeps a completed result available.
About this guide#
This manual describes the current project implementation, checked on . If a control shown here is missing, check your installed version and the latest release. Screenshots are real captures from the app; their labels may reflect an earlier build.
The guides explain local dictation and optional cloud rewriting separately. Local recognition needs a downloaded model, but no TawkType account or subscription.
