Open and search History#

Open History from the status bar or tray controls. Entries contain the recognized text, final text and metadata such as time and engine information. The list is kept locally when logging is enabled.

The search box looks in both Heard and the final result. Every search word must occur somewhere in either text, in any order, and matching ignores case. Try a distinctive phrase or a word you remember saying even if cleanup changed it.

Edit an entry#

1. Select an entry to reveal its editable result and Heard text.
2. Correct the editable result.
3. Choose Save to keep the revised final text, or Revert to discard unsaved changes.
4. Use Copy to copy the current edited text, or Copy heard for the original recognized text.

Editing the history entry does not edit text already inserted into another application. It also does not overwrite the Heard evidence or automatically create a vocabulary rule.

Run cleanup again#

Clean again runs the current cleanup pipeline over the entry’s original recognized text. Change your active mode or vocabulary, then use it to compare how those preferences affect an earlier result.

The new result appears in the editable draft. Choose Save to accept it or Revert to return to the stored version. “No change” means the new pass did not produce a different usable result.

This reprocesses text, not audio. Changing the speech engine before Clean again will not retranscribe an old recording.

Remember a recurring mistake#

After correcting a result, choose Remember…. Review the proposed phrase pair in the correction dialog and save it with Remember. Future matching dictations use that replacement locally.

Keep a rule as narrow as practical. A change made only for the wording of one message should usually remain an edit rather than become a global replacement. You can review or remove saved rules in Settings → Vocabulary.

Retention and deletion#

History is enabled by default with a maximum of 200 entries. Change this under Settings → History → Keep at most. Retention removes older entries from the persisted history, not only from the visible list.

Delete removes one entry. Clear… asks before removing the complete history. Check any error message: a file that could not be deleted has not been successfully cleared.

Turning off Keep a log of every dictation stops persistent logging and attempts to delete the history file. The latest completed result may still exist in the app’s temporary recovery buffer. Clearing history does not remove text already pasted into other apps or retained by clipboard tools.

History also powers your statistics#

Settings → General calculates dictation count, speech duration, words, characters and related statistics from retained history. Clearing or trimming history changes those totals.

Time saved compares the retained words with typing at 40 words per minute. It is an estimate based on that assumption, not a measurement of your personal typing speed or an independent product benchmark.

The History window can remain Always on top. Settings → History also lets you open it automatically when TawkType starts.
