Open source under Apache 2.0#
TawkType is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (Apache-2.0). You can use, modify, fork and redistribute it, including commercially, subject to that licence’s conditions.
The project’s LICENSE file contains its licence text. You can also read the Apache Software Foundation’s full terms.
Find the licence inside the app#
Open Settings → General → About and choose Licence to open the project’s licence. All credits opens the third-party notices; Parakeet model links to the model publisher.
The repository also includes a NOTICE file with the project attribution and model credits.
Modifying or redistributing TawkType#
Apache 2.0 requires a copy of the licence with redistribution, prominent change notices in modified files, retention of relevant source notices, and preservation of applicable NOTICE attribution. Its copyright permissions include derivative works; section 3 defines a conditional contributor patent grant.
The licence does not grant general trademark rights. Warranty and liability terms are set out in sections 7–9. Read the full licence for the complete conditions.

Contributing to the project#
Contributions are welcome. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, contributions intentionally submitted for inclusion are covered by Apache 2.0 under section 5, subject to any separate agreement. The project README states that no contributor licence agreement is required.
Open an issue before starting a large change so the scope can be discussed. Use the project issue tracker for suggestions and bug reports.
Third-party software and speech models#
Other components keep their own licences. TawkType’s Apache 2.0 licence does not replace the terms for its libraries or downloaded speech models.

The speech models are separate, user-requested downloads. They are not included in the TawkType installer. See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md for the complete library list, publisher links and attribution details.
